Leeds Amateur Champion 2020

Tom Broxup (Cookridge Hall) retained the Grantham EleyTrophy for the second successive year as Leeds Amateur Champion 2020 at Moortown Golf Club. His opponent Jamie Dunnion (Garforth) put up a good fight by finishing the first 18 holes only 3 down. Having dropped 5 strokes in the opening 9 holes Jamie birdied the 10th, 11th and 18th holes to keep in touch with the impressive play produced by Tom.

The opening 6 holes of the second round were exchanged in par scores but Tom produced an eagle 3 on the 7th followed by three pars and a birdie on the 11th hole to finish the match  with an 8/7 victory.

Tom has been in great form in this Covid affected year by doing the double winning the Leeds Amateur Stroke Play and the Leeds Amateur titles a feat only done by David Appleyard (South Leeds) in 1997 and Andy King (Garforth) in 2000 since the Stroke Play was first played in 1988.
