New President Designate 2017
Following the announcement at the Council meeting on the 17th November I am pleased to confirm that Mr. Mike Gallagher of the
Scarcroft Golf Club has been invited to become our President Designate from the AGM in March 2017. His selection was unanimously agreed by the Past Presidents and endorsed by the Executive Committee.
Mike was born in Sunderland in 1945 and after 45 years working in the Financial Services sector, much of the time as a Personal Tax and Investment manager with Barclays Trust Company, he became Secretary Manager of Scarcroft Golf Club for 4 years until he retired in 2010.
Mike started playing golf in 1976 with spells of membership at Wideopen GC and Prudhoe GC while in Newcastle before becoming a member of Newmarket Old Links after moving to Cambridge with his job.
On moving to Leeds he joined Scarcroft GC in 1983 where he has served as a member of the General Committee for 6 years followed by 6 years as Honorary Treasurer before becoming Captain in 2004.
Mike has served Leeds & District Union of Golf Clubs as Honorary Treasurer since March 1998. Mike and his wife Caroline will celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary during his term as President Elect in 2018 with their two daughters and one grand-daughter.
