LEEDS & DISTRICT UNION of GOLF CLUBS

Council meeting

The Council of the LDUGC met at Cookridge Hall on 18 September 2014.

The main points arising were:

  1. Pontefract Golf Club asked, at the last Council meeting, for the Union to consider Scratch team matches being played in handicap order. The Union Secretary  polled all clubs who play in the scratch league asking their views. Of the 25 Clubs, 12 voted in favour of no change, 10 voted for handicap order and 3 voted to swop team sheets. The 3 Clubs who voted to swop team sheets were then asked to cast their vote in favour of one of the other two options. Two clubs elected for no change and one club abstained. Consequently the decision was taken that the matches should continue as is with 14 clubs voting for no change and 10 voting for handicap order.
  2. For 2015, the Union has decided that the First Division Team Championship will be held on one day with a 2 tee start (i.e. there will be NO qualifying round).
  3. In recent years the Spring 4 ball and Charity 4 ball have been poorly supported. For 2015, it has been decided that these competitions will be open to all male members of affiliated clubs.
  4. The Junior Order of Merit has proved a huge success and the Union is keen that more clubs should be part of the Junior Order of Merit. Clubs are asked to contact Mick Fisher or John Grimbleby before the end of February 2015 if they would like to take part.
  5. The Union Secretary informed the meeting that Middleton Park Golf  had resigned from the Union as the Club was being liquidated following Leeds City Council's decision to close the course.
  6. John Shaw, the Yorkshire President, apprised the meeting of the County Golf Partnership. Yorkshire joined the Partnership recently, the aims of which are to encourage people to play golf and become a club member. Any club who would like more information is invited to contact the Yorkshire Union.
