Leeds Strokeplay Championship 2016

Tom Broxup (Cookridge Hall) held off a strong challenge from home player Craig Watt to win the Strokeplay Championship at Howley Hall. Craig held a 2 stroke lead after the morning round with a fine score of 71 over 17 holes as the 8th hole had to be taken out of play for repair after drainage work had been undertaken.

In the afternoon Craig played the first 9 holes in level par but a recurrence of a an arm injury resulted in him finishing with a score of 75 whilst Tom played steady golf to record another 73. With scores tied Tom won on the last 18 hole score of 73.

Tom and Craig are seeded 1 and 2 in the subsequent Draw for the Amateur Matchplay Championship contested by the top 32 players at Howley Hall.
