Leeds & District Union of Golf Clubs

Golfer of the Year title decided at Horsforth.

Golfer of the Year 2023  -Sam Claypole (Darrington)

Sam Claypole (Darrington) and Saul Guilford (Moor Allerton) were  separated by only 1 point as we entered the final qualifying event of the season at Horsforth Golf Club and fittingly both players had fought their way through qualifying KO rounds to reach the final.

Sam was in the lead with 44 points after both players had played for the Leeds Union team which won the Yorkshire Inter District Union 6 Man Team Championship at Wakefield last week.

Despite being 3 down to Saul after the first round of the Amateur at Horsforth and 2 under par Sam had a task on his hands but the form and competitive spirit he has shown all season prevailed and he took the title 4/2 in a pulsating match between two very good players.

With 8 points to the winner and 4 to runner up Sam  took the Golfer of the Year title 53 points to Saul's very creditable 48 point total.

Congratulation to both players for a great season.
