Leeds Amateur Champion and Golfer of the Year 2025

Bailey Hird (Cookridge Hall) wins the Leeds Amateur Championship for the second time, having won it in 2022, by beating Jack Clements (Waterton Park) in the delayed final at Howley Hall yesterday. The 36 hole final was postponed as Bailey had qualified to play in the Yorkshire Matchplay final at Crossland Heath where he was beaten on the 19th hole in a tense match against local player Habib Khan(Huddersfield)

For the first 12 holes at Howley Bailey held a one hole advantage being only 1 over par but a strong finish combined with Jack losing his way from the tees meant that after 18 holes Bailey was 4 up going in to lunch.

Jack reduced the deficit to 3 holes after a birdie at the 2nd hole in the afternoon  but Bailey played the next 8 holes 2 under par and Jack struggled with his game to lose 8 and 7.

Both players were not aware that they were both also leading players in the Golfer of the Year competition and Bailey, by virtue of winning the Amateur title, gained 38 points to take him past Jack on 33 points and Sam Stokes on 34 points to win the coveted Tony Jackson Trophy for the second time in 5 years.

Jack Clements will not be playing in these events again as he has turned Pro after being involved with the LDU Junior and Senior teams and we wish him well in his new career.

President Bill Watt presented the Grantham Eley Trophy( Amateur Championship) and Tony Jackson Trophy (Golfer of the Year) to Bailey Hird with Jack Clements.
